Calling all food innovators! How might Nestlé create value for people and the planet by transforming acid whey into a useful material for food production?

 

🎯 Challenge Objective:

About 1.5 million tons of acid whey is produced in the US every year from just the production of Greek yogurt. Because of the challenges in further processing of this side-stream, this natural, fermented, and abundant side-stream is not used as a food ingredient. We’re looking for your creative solutions on how to repurpose this material and think of potential applications in frozen sauces, pasta, dough, or as ingredient additives.

 

⏰ Challenge Timelines:

  • Call for ideas: from 09.05.2024 to 10.27.2024 end of day.
  • Evaluation Phase: 10.06.2024 – 10.31.2024
  • Finalists Announcement: 11.04.2024
  • Coaching Sessions: 11.05.2024 – 11.19.2024
  • Virtual Pitching Session: 11.20.2024

 

🏆 Challenge Reward:

  • The top 3 ideas selected after the pitching session will be rewarded with a cash prize of $500.
  • The top submission for this challenge will be invited to the Nestlé USA R&D center (flight/overnight stay paid by Nestlé) to meet and showcase his/her product idea to the leadership team, plus a "swag bag" of stuff + VIP coupons to try new products (~ $25). Please note that if you are applying as a team, the invitation is extended to only one member of the team.
  • Plus, you will receive mentorship by industry experts, virtual skill-building and networking opportunities, an impressive addition to your resume, and formal recognition.

 

✅Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must accept the terms and conditions linked to the challenge.
  • Applicants can apply with a team member or as an individual and must be currently enrolled in a U.S based college/university.
  • Applicants must be available to pitch their idea on November 20th, if chosen as a finalist.
  • Proposals for this Nestlé Youth Entrepreneurship Platform are for non-Nestlé employees only.
